Stephanie Mixson Byrd and Elise Hartley Join National Young Women In Bio Team
Women In Bio August 18, 2016
WIB’s National Young Women In Bio Chair, Ashley Bowman, announced that Stephanie Mixson Byrd and Elise Hartley will join the National YWIB team as Co-Vice Chairs. The team is very excited to have these two outstanding additions!
Stephanie received her Ph.D. in Plant Biology with a minor in Biotechnology in the summer of 2013 from N.C. StateUniversity. She began working at Medicago in the fall of 2013 as that company’s first full time hire in Analytical Development. Medicago is a mid-sized start-up company currently in clinical trials for seasonal flu using virus-like particle technology. As an Analytical Development Specialist, Stephanie works on developing and optimizing assays as well as completing tech transfers to Quality Control. Stephanie is moving into a national role from WIB-RTP’s Young Women In Bio program. Over the first three years of WIB-RTP’s Young Women In Bio program, six events were hosted totaling nearly 200 girls in attendance. Since Stephanie became the chapter’s YWIB chair in 2014, it has hosted 15 events with over 550 girls attending, and she has arranged for the chapter to host as many as eight more YWIB events this year! In spite of all the time Stephanie puts into YWIB, she still has time to train weekly with her award winning agility dog (true story), hold a board position with a local rotary group, maintain a social life, and advance in her role at Medicago! Stephanie will be an exceptional asset to the National YWIB team!
